The area has two official languages: Slovenian and Hungarian. Lendva\'s castle was built in the 12th century. It had its golden age when it was owned by the Bánffys: it was a home of significant cultural and political activity. There is an art gallery and a museum in the castle nowadays. Lendva became a town in 1867, and also the seat of the district. The Community\'s geographical location plays a very important role in its economic development it is located near the shared border of Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, which facilitates international cooperation. Several cross-border integrated tourism and economic developments have been realised in the latest years. Lendva Community has excellent potentials for non-industrial activities as well, basically in the field of agriculture and tourism (geothermal energy, natural environment and spas). Natural resources, such as thermal water, forests rich in game, lakes and rivers, where fish is abundant, attract a lot of tourists. \"
